  1. This video contains news coverage of the hundreds of gatherings taking place today to protest taxes and recent government spending.

  2. I thought that these protests where very interesting because they tried to capture a revolt from history. I thought it was interesting that they tried to send tea to the white house. I think that it was a statement that they had this revolt and it raised many questions but I beleive in the long run this will not make much difference in what is going on with our economy and the taxation crisis.

  3. I think my biggest problem with these protests is America has been running up a debt over the last 8 years and they've said nothing. To them, it's as though history started 3 months ago. As for the tax issue, the top tax rate is 36% right now. Obama wants to raise it to 39%, the level under Clinton. I don't know why 36 is cool but 3 more percent constitutes socialism, fascism, or anything along those lines.

  4. I love how reminiscent this was of the Boston Tea Party and that the protesters tried to send tea to the White House. Although there were thousands of protesters, what did they really think they were going to be able to do? I guess it was beneficial for this controversy to receive additional media coverage, but I think there are other ways to make your voice more effectively heard. Had each of those protesters taken the time to write their senator or congressperson, they might have been taken more seriously and had more of an effect.

  5. I watched coverage of this on Fox News for about 2 hours and I was very surprised and pleased that that many people were able to organize such a huge event nationwide. In a country this big (where one single person's vote really will not be a make-or-break point) it is nice to see that at least there are some other possible ways for the people to express their political/social/economic beliefs. I think part of the reason this happened is that political efficacy is way down in this country. People are stating to feel like they have no control over their own finances.
Another thing I found interesting was that Fox News covered the Tea Party protest quite extensively, while other networks largely ignored it. Fox also painted it as a protest from people from both ends of the political spectrum, although it was organized by a conservative group. I think there are a lot of people fed up with the way the economy is being handled and the out of control spending, but there is no doubt that overall this was a conservative movement. Most people however (even from the right) are quick to criticize Bush's fiscal policies. I think a lot of people, from left and right felt that since Obama was campaigning against pretty much every single Bush policy, that things would change. Since out of control spending has continued under the Obama administration, people are upset. In my opinion having a country in serious financial debt is never a good thing, especially on the international market. The dollar cannot compete in the global market when American continues to incur enormous financial debt and deficit spending.
Finally, I do not agree that this accomplished nothing. There is no doubt that this event caught the attention of government officials. And if they are smart (which would probably be giving them too much credit) they will at least consider new solutions to the problem besides throwing money at it. People do not like to see large corporations getting tons of money for being irresponsible while there businesses burn to the ground.

  6. Commenting on what Joe said, Fox news really did cover most of the story. I can't rememember if they said one of the events took place in Atlanta. However, I know the Obama party, is spending trillions of dollars, but the governent is starting to take over everything. Maybe they are trying to pull companies out of debt but raising taxes and spending peoples money, I would be one of those protesters too.

  7. It seems to me if only one channel covered the story we will only get one side. I am not exactly sure what was said but it was interesting story. Thedollar are already important to our country but I would worry about the government have to much control

  8. Though I don't particularly agree with some reasoning behind the protest, I have to say I am glad it happened. Liberals are often stereotyped as the "rebellious protesters," while in this case, the protest was primarily based on conservative ideals. I think its great when people come together in that way and in a sense, break stereotypes.
