This clip from CNN reports the recent event of a domesticated chimpanzee attacking a woman. There is a 911 audio tape of the owner of the chimpanzee calling the police for help. This brings up the argument of whether or
not wild animals should be kept as pets. This contains disturbing content so keep that in mind.Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Wow, this is horrifying. I can't believe they were saying "she has no face," and that the police thought the woman injured was a man.
ReplyDeleteWas it the anti-anxiety pill that set the chimpanzee off? I'm really interested in finding out if in fact a doctor was letting the animal's owner give this chimpanzee medication.
A friend of mine actually owns a wolf as a pet in California. He resides in a county outside Los Angeles, because LA doesn't allow wild animals as pets in homes.
Oh man..my head is hurting right now..
This was a very interesting current event. This story is crazy. I cant believe that the chimpanzee actually was taking anti anxiety medication. I think it is important to note how intelligent monkeys are and that they are one of the smartest animals. I do not believe that animals should be domesticated. If they continue to be domesticated more instances like this can occur.
ReplyDeleteThis video is terrifying! It really opened my eyes to the controversy that is going on dealing with domestication of wild animals. I think this is proof enough of the potential negative effects of taking an animal from the wild and raising it as a pet. If I were kidnapped by a pack of wolves next week and had no one to communicate with except the wolves, I would lose my sanity. It was only a matter of time before the chimp lost his!
ReplyDeleteI actually heard about this story...like the comments above stated it is a scary thing and I think it does open your eyes to whether or not wild animals should be domesticated. I am curious to whether or not the chimp's caretaker is licensed to have the chimp or trained to take care of such an animal. I think you can domestic wild animals if they are in the right hands, like trained professionals or experts. I also wonder what made this woman give her chimp a human narcotic. I understand chimps are mammals but I can't help to think the drug probably was the cause of such a gruesome attack.
