I am a huge Cardinals fan and am a huge Mark McGwire fan. However, I don't believe that players of his talent that happened to use steroids should be allowed into the hall of fame. While I want McGwire to be in the hall of fame as a fan of his, I also think that baseball at some point needs to make an example out of someone to show their strong stance against steroids. If they let players like him in, they are only showing weakness and indifference when it comes to steroid prevention.
Although steriod use has become a huge deal in the MLB,the only player that has openly admitted to steriod use is Jose Canseco. Other major players including Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds have been accused of taking steriods but never convicted in a trial or proved. So as for the Hall of Fame goes, I believe that those players displayed exceptional skills and should be inducted into their. Plus during the 90's, steriods were actually legal.
How can we say a player should not be admitted into the Hall of Fame when he hasn't broken any rules? Are we excluding McGwire for maybe lying to a grand jury about having done something that would have been legal at the time? That seems preposterous to me.
I am also a huge Cardinal fan and followed Mark Mcguire during his homerun race. I do not think it is necessarily fair that he should not be allowed in the hall of fame because there was not any rules on steroids at the time. I do beleive that they should enforce the rule of steroids now because there is a rule against them, but as for the the players who are not allowed from before the rule was made, is just not fair.
